Case Study: Dental Emergency & Multidisciplinary Treatment 2025

Case 1 – Dental Emergency Event (Emergency Intervention for Dental Trauma)

Dental injuries can be sudden, painful, and deeply concerning. In such instances, finding prompt emergency dental care is critical to saving a tooth and preserving your smile. At DOT Dental, we specialize in dental trauma management and are equipped to handle urgent cases with speed and expertise.

The following case study illustrates a common scenario of a traumatic dental injury and how our team’s swift intervention led to a successful outcome.

Incident Description & Urgency

During the final round, a powerful and unexpected punch caused a severe injury to his mouth. The impact resulted in a fractured upper incisor and a complete displacement of another tooth from its socket. He was in significant pain and knew his situation required immediate emergency dental care. The severity of this traumatic dental injury demanded urgent treatment to prevent permanent damage and salvage the tooth.

Immediate Treatment Steps

Upon the patient’s arrival, the DOT Dental team acted quickly and professionally.

  1. Assessment and X-rays: We immediately took X-rays to assess the extent of the tooth fracture and check for any damage to the surrounding bone structure.
  2. Pain Management and Stabilization: The patient was given a local anesthetic to control the pain immediately. We then carefully cleaned the injured area in preparation for treatment.
  3. Multidisciplinary Treatment: For the fractured tooth, we performed an aesthetic restoration using composite material. This material was carefully shaped to restore the tooth’s original form and function. For the displaced tooth (a risk for tooth avulsion), we gently guided it back into its correct position. We then stabilized it with a special dental splint, a critical step in effective dental trauma management that allows the periodontal ligaments and surrounding tissues to heal.

Healing & Functional Recovery

Two weeks later, the patient returned to have his splint removed. We assessed the tooth’s stability and evaluated the healing process. The patient made a full recovery, his tooth was firmly secured, and he experienced no further pain. He was able to return to training and competing without worry. This case is a perfect example of how timely emergency dental care can make a significant difference.

Case 2 – Integrated Multidisciplinary Dental Treatment

Dental trauma can lead to multiple issues at once, requiring a comprehensive treatment plan from various dental specialties. This is a clinical case that we successfully treated, illustrating the seamless collaboration between specialists at DOT Dental.

 Combined Issues

Our patient was a 16-year-old teenager who suffered a serious bicycle accident. Upon arrival at the clinic, the patient presented with several complex injuries:

  • The accident fractured an upper front tooth horizontally, exposing the pulp and requiring root canal treatment and restoration.
  • It also caused another front tooth to become severely loose and deeply intrude into the bone socket, a condition known as intrusive luxation.
  • The patient was in the middle of orthodontic treatment, but the accident had damaged the brackets and wires, disrupting the progress of their braces.

This was a complex case that required us to simultaneously address issues of dental trauma management, orthodontics, and restorative dentistry.

Coordinated Treatment Plan by Specialists

To ensure the best possible outcome, we developed an integrated treatment plan, closely coordinating between our endodontic, orthodontic, and restorative specialists.

  1. Emergency Phase:
    • Endodontics: Our endodontist immediately performed root canal treatment on the fractured tooth to eliminate infection and preserve the tooth’s vitality.
    • Restorative Dentistry: Following the root canal, our restorative specialist meticulously rebuilt the tooth using composite material, restoring its original form and function.
  2. Functional Recovery Phase:
    • Orthodontic Intervention: We carefully monitored the intruded tooth. Our orthodontist then gently intervened by using a specialized archwire to gradually and safely guide the tooth back into its correct position.
    • Temporary Restoration: Our team re-attached a temporary bracket to ensure the orthodontic process was not interrupted, allowing the patient’s treatment to continue smoothly.

Final Outcome & Long-Term Monitoring

After several months of treatment and monitoring, the results were truly remarkable. The intruded tooth returned to its normal position, and the fractured tooth was perfectly restored, showing no signs of the initial trauma. The patient was able to continue their braces treatment as planned.

DOT Dental is committed to supporting patients not only in emergencies but also throughout their long-term recovery. We believe that coordination between specialists is the key to achieving optimal results, especially with complex dental trauma cases.
